LA Times knows there more than means the beat with TORRES’ music. After attending her set at SXSW, Reporter Todd Martens reflects:
“There’s a sense with Torres’ songs that a whole life has been lived within them. “Sprinter” views the world as a predatory one, and “Strange Hellos,” the lead single off her forthcoming sophomore album, simmers with tension-building guilt. Songs start out as ballads, and then become something louder, more brute, as Torres lets every chord change creak like a rusty door hinge.”
Read the rest of the report here and keep an eye out for her new record Sprinter which drops 5/4 via Partisan Records.

The folks over at Grimy Goods love the new direction Tomás Pagán Motta has taken in his new self-titled solo album:
“Motta has always been of fine voice, but this new release finds Motta more expressive, and dramatic. He has a quiet-loud-quiet thing going on. His soft voice has much more of a quirky, tic-filled sound, and his throat voice is really passionate.”

TORRES reigns on the top of Rolling Stone’s “50 Best Things We Saw at SXSW 2015″ list, nominated as “Best Rainy-Day Rock”.
The conditions were stormy during Dr. Martens-sponsored showcase at Bar 96 but they were no match for whirlwind of TORRES’ performance on stage:
“Ranging from a throaty whisper to a full howl over grungy distortion, she turned songs like 2013’s “Honey,” 2014’s “New Skin” and this year’s “Strange Hellos” into emotional sledgehammers. It was a short but powerful performance that solidified her upcoming LP, Sprinter, as one of the year’s most anticipated indie-rock releases.”
Sprinter comes out not a minute too soon on May 5th via Partisan Records.
