Diamond Rugs is back at it again with the grimiest, country-tinged rock in town. The writers at mxdwn.com break the album down track-by-track, digging deeply and exploring the album’s roots. How can you not listen to this record?
“Killing Time” is easily the album’s top track. It’s hard to figure out what makes this song such a compelling listen; it’s a potent mix of deceptively simple elements that end up being greater than the sum of the parts. They start with a base made up of a two note guitar riff, a walking bass line, and chugging drums. On top of that are layered call and response vocals that evoke the outro of Iggy Pop’s “Success.” Finally, sparing helpings of acoustic guitar, organ stabs, and a scorching saxophone solo are sprinkled in.

KNTRLR was featured on Pancakes and Whiskey’s Show Recap for their recent stellar
performance at The Gutter in Brooklyn, below is a mini snippet of the
entire piece you can find here:
"The notion of love being a transit thing which no mortal can hold is apparent in most of KNTRLR’s music, which is ironic, since the band’s name is controller or maybe more aptly put control her? That is something to ponder. At any rate one should definitely listen to this band, they are sleek and mesmerizing. Easy listen but also deep and meaningful and their videos are very cool to watch. The band is just as good live as they are on their recorded projects and the gents are cool people to meet as well, so do not hesitate to say hello.”

"Reconfiguration" by Other Lives is KEXP’s song of the day!
Although hardly subtle, the aptly-titled “Reconfiguration” is nothing short of a reinvention for the group. Guitars (or any stringed instruments, for that matter) are used sparsely, replaced by electronics and a stronger-than-ever focus on Jesse Tabish’s vocals. “Reconfiguration” is powered by a winding, rabbit hole-like spiral of intrigue and since it doesn’t ever reach an obvious climax, it makes the song all the more magnetic.
